Every dog should have some basic obedience training. Even if you have loftier goals for your dog, everything begins with the basic commands. Located near Kings Mountain North Carolina at Dog Years, our companion Dog Obedience Training develops a dog’s aptitude for learning and increases your dog’s attention span. The basics, all taught on-lead, consist of Heel, Sit, Come, and Down. After completing the basic Puppy Training program, your dog will heel properly, walking at your left side, even with your thigh. The dog will match your walking speed and pay attention to you the entire time. When you stop, your dog will automatically sit without further command. When you call your dog to come, it will return enthusiastically to you, and perform what in Obedience competition is known as the "Finish", meaning the dog will come around you from your right side, and return to a sitting position on your left side. Lastly, your dog will lie down calmly at your single "Down" command. Say goodbye to those behaviors that annoy or embarrass you, such as pulling on the leash, jumping up on you or others, or refusing to come when called! The average time for a dog to complete this basic on-leash sequence is two weeks. After that, your dog is ready for more advanced off-leash Pet Training, should you so desire. Upon completion of the training, owners will receive a demonstration of their dog's performance, instruction on handling their trained dog, and a DVD of their dog in action. |
